Driving in Queensland

IS it just me or have people gone a bit freekin MENTAL

You could blame in on all the "bad" drivers from Sydney and Melbourne maybe but people are tailgating like never before, pushing you along so they can "get to the shops and buy some stuff".  Big deal - we all need to do this.

And what's with the cars with 4 sets of lights (sometimes on high beam).  If you have lights on high-beam that isn't supposed to be allowed but you can have 4 super-bright halogen lights in a VERY HIGH 4WD and no problems.  The 2 lower ones are FOG lamps.  WTF - when did we last have fog in Brisbane that lasted more than a few hours a couple of times a year?  People don't even know they are fog lamps and that they leave a permanent stop light (one light only) on the back lights which is obviously design for when you are hurtling down a German autobahn (fahren fahren auf den autobahn for Kraftwerk fans) and see some yellow/orange lights and try to slow down hoping there isn't a huge truck 2 foot behind you who is distracted changing songs on his dash-mounted ipod touch.

And, it is not just young guys, the girls and even older women are pretty aggressive too.  If you are doing a little more that the speed limit in the right lane and someone is pushing you along, you can bet there is fair chance it won't be some agro guy but some petite young lady rushing somewhere.

I know we are busy but I have lived in London for about 8 years and people are much more courteous - they have to be as there is heaps more traffic.  But, I would say traffic in Brisbane is WORST than London traffic because of the roads (an extensive blog coming on that soon).  There are more than 12 million people in greater London (probably closer to 15 if I checked now) and Brisbane would be just one small part of London which has maybe 20 parts.  In London, people will let you in when there is gridlock because they know you are all in the same boat.  Apart from that the roads are MUCH MUCH better which is partly to blame for why we need to speed some much around our incredibly narrow roads ...

Settle down people ... leave a bit earlier and relax on the roads.  Nothing the police can do in terms of fixed cameras, mobile radars (don't you $#$ REALLY hate these !!!) has worked.  We just need to chill, slow down and let all share the roads more safely.
